Understanding platform fees

Where platform fees come in, how they compare to other platforms, and what you get for them.

4-min readUpdated

Platform fees are something clinics ask about often. Here is the honest breakdown.

What you pay

Two components:

  • Platform subscription — flat monthly fee for your tier (storefront, dashboard, operator time, AI tools, unlimited customers)
  • Transaction fee — a percentage of order subtotals on orders that use vendors from our marketplace. No transaction fee on orders for products you fulfill yourself.

For most clinics, the subscription is the main line. The transaction fee only kicks in when you are using marketplace vendors.

How that compares to other platforms

A like-for-like comparison is tricky because most other platforms break out their fees differently:

  • Shopify — lower platform fee, but charges a per-transaction fee on every order, plus payment processing on top
  • Custom build — lower variable cost, but you pay for engineering, hosting, ops, and your time as the operator
  • Generic CRM (Hubspot/Salesforce) — lower platform fee, but you piece together the rest

When you sum up the equivalent components on those platforms, the all-in cost is roughly comparable — the differences come from what you value (your time, brand control, the operator team).

What you get

The platform subscription covers:

  • Your storefront and its design
  • Your dashboard and its features
  • Operator time (your dedicated person handling the day-to-day)
  • AI tools (drafts, designer, copilot)
  • Email and SMS up to generous thresholds
  • Compliance infrastructure (BAA, audit logs, age-gates, etc.)
  • Updates and new features as we ship them

The transaction fee covers:

  • Marketplace operations (vendor onboarding, vendor payments, dispute handling)
  • Marketplace customer support (when a vendor issue affects an order)

When fees change

We have raised platform fees once in the past three years and that change was previewed in the dashboard for 90 days before going into effect. Transaction fees have not changed. We will not silently raise either.

If you want to negotiate

For clinics over $50K/month in revenue, we have custom pricing tiers. Talk to your operator — they will introduce you to the account team if it is worth a conversation.
